A ceremony to pay tribute to Liliette Therian, a lady sculptor was held at the fourth session of Images of the Mind at Imam Ali Museum of Religious Arts.
Held on February 21, 2007, the ceremony was attended by artists in various fields, especially sculpture, at the Noor Hall of Imam Ali Museum of Religious Arts.
The programs opened with a speech by Iraj Eskandari a former student of Lillit Terian. Eskandari talked of his student days at the Decorative Arts Studio which was founded by Terian. Eskandari described Lillit Terian as a determined woman and a conscientious instructor who set up the Decorative Arts Studio with great effort.
Eskandari continued, "The studio at the College of Decorative Arts was a perfect place for creation of sculpture. A great number of students were trained there under the instruction of the exceptional teacher, and prominent sculptors graduated from the studio.
"The die-cast workshop was also set up by Madam Terian, and I dare say that if Morteza Momayez deserves to be called the father of the Iranian graphic art then Lillit Terian deserves to be called the mother of sculpture in this country".
Eskandari thanked the deputy director of Tehran Municipalitys Cultural-Art Organization for arranging such ceremonies of tribute which are highly valued by the artists and create pleasant memories for them. He added, "There are opportunities for work, remuneration and service for everybody, but we only have to make determined effort so that the art of sculpture may yield beautiful fruits. Certainly artists are messengers of beauty."
The ceremony continued with the screening of a documentary video clip on the life of Lillit Terian, and was then followed with a speech by Mashadizadeh, one of Terians former students.
"I consider it as one of the prides of my life that I was trained by a first-rate artist like Madam Terian, and I am glad that this ceremony of tribute to her has been arranged.
It is really sad to witness old teachers neglected by their pupils," Mashadizadeh said. He added, "Thanks to the determination of Lillit Terian the College of Decorative Arts began it work in an atmosphere of freedom and liberality and I am glad that it has adhered to these principles. That is why the college is now one of the loveable academic centers in the country."
At the end of the ceremony a memorial plaque and gift was presented to Lillit Terian by Seyed Mohsen Hashemi, director of Imam Ali Museum of Religious Arts and manager of the visual art unit of Tehran Municipalitys Cultural-Art Organization, Taher Sheikholhokamai chairman of board of directors of the Iranian Society of Sculptors, and Nahid Saliani one of Terians students.
